Thunderbird not syncing deleted messages with gmail via IMAP

Good morning,

For some reason any changes i make in thunderbird dont propagate to
gmail. For example, i delete a message and its still there fully
visible and unmoved in the gmail web interface. I send a message
however, and it works just fine (showing up in my sent folder on the
web interface and all) so that indicates that theres some kind of
connection working at least

Am i missing some setting in thunderbird?

If you're using POP, then no, just that there is no synchronization to
happen. You have to use IMAP if you want things to synchronize.
