For the last several days I have been unable to send any email.  All of my out going email fails with this error.  I do not understand why google would be trying to authenticate to smtp.mail.com.  I do forward email FROM mail.com to my gmail account.  I am perplexed.  Can anyone offer any explanation why this is happening and what I might be doing to cause it?  It is driving me nucking futz!

Nelson

It's acting like you're sending "from" one of the domains managed by mail.com (they have hundreds) and you're not presenting credentials that it recognizes... Do you have a mail.com account that is active and you're trying to use that address as your from?  Have you logged directly into mail.com to make sure there's no issue with your account and credentials?  Have you tried sending from your real gmail.com address; to make sure it's related to the particular alias.

Agreed Doc.

Nelson, it seems as if you have your mail.com set up in your Gmail 'Settings->Accounts->Send mail as' to use the mail.com SMTP server but you have perhaps changed password or supplied incorrect credentials.

As per the OP, this is an issue of relaying being rejected. It has
nothing to do with Spamcop.

535 Authentication credentials invalid (SMTP AUTH failed with the remote server)

Hey guys,
I'm having the same problem.

Since yesterday I have the same error but is not 100% of the time. I'd guess 9 in 10 emails are blocked.

And I'm using the "Send As" config, to use gmail but it will send as another alias (jungleme.com.br) which our domain.

It's happening for 3 different email accounts and when we use the @gmail.com (like the key email of the account) it works.

This is the error message. Can anyone help?

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

     thgm...@gmail.com

Technical details of permanent failure:

554 bart0054.correio.pw ESMTP not accepting connections

The server is denying the relay.  If you control the server, then you should add a whitelist for the relay.

I have had this same issues on and off with mail.com for a year or two. Sometimes it works fine. Sometimes if fails completely. Sometimes it will be successful to some recipients but fail to others.

Post the error message, a 'me too' email doesn't really help anyone.

I contacted my email/website/domain server provider/host and they fixed it. But it took them 2 weeks. Unfortunately I can't help other people because they don't give us (clients) details of what they did.  They said that is was happening to other people that had their websites, their domains and their emails hosted by them so the fixing was for a lot of clients.

That's it. Sorry for not having more to add on the discussion and thanks for the help.

Regards
Thiago

For anyone having this issue I thought I would post what I did

The issue was in Cpanel I needed to select  "Use local mail exchanger" instead of "Automatically detect configuration" which was causing the SMTP authentication errors.

Hello Deven.

I had to to contact the server company where  host my website. I send them the error message. It took 20 days for them to fix. But they did it.

I guess this is something for IT experts.

I hope you get it solved.

Regards

Either you have the wrong credentials for smtp.mail.com in your Gmail 'send mail as' settings for your mail.com address, or you are using a 3rd party mail client and you have typed in smtp.mail.com instead of smtp.gmail.com.

This error has nothing to do with Gmail either way.
