Imap error message

I have been accessing my Gmail from Outlook 2003 via Imap but
suddenly, without changing anything in Outlook I get the following
error message:


Task 'Checking for new mail in subscribed folders on imap.gmail.com.'
reported error (0x8004DF0B) : 'Outlook is unable to download folder
(null) from the IMAP e-mail server for account imap.gmail.com. Error:
The connection to the server is unavailable. Outlook must be online
or connected to complete this action. If you continue to receive this
message, contact your server administrator or Internet service
provider (ISP).'

Can anyone help?

Is this persistent or just happened once? Everyone experiences
connection issues from time to time. If it's continuing, then you
might have a problem.

The troubleshooting section for IMAP below lists some common steps to
try and see if anything clears up:
