Below is a draft of email to go to Feingold. Please edit as needed.
Frank

Honorable Senator Russ Feingold.
As you may know, in July of 2008, a group of some 23,000 people
representing all sectors of the population
rallied to get Senator Obama to oppose FISA.

This group known as "GetFisaRight" remains a viable force today and is
working very actively to get the new Obama
administration to address FISA such that our 4th amendment rights don't
continue to be violated.

We offer our support to you, in any way we can, as you go forward in
making FSIA right.

The "GetFisaRight" group http://www.getfisaright.com/

NOTE.....the above links page is messed up? Should we use another linl?

Thanks for putting this together Frank. Here is my suggested edited version:

Honorable Senator Russ Feingold,

As you may know, in July of 2008, a group of some 23,000 people,
representing all sectors of the US population, rallied to get Senator
Obama to oppose the bill modifying the FISA system, H.R. 6304.

This group, known as "Get FISA Right", continues to be a viable force,
and is working very actively to urge the new Obama administration to
address the problems introduced by H.R. 6304, such that our 4th
amendment rights do not continue to be violated.

We offer our support to you, in any way we can, as you go forward in

making FISA right.

Thanks Frank and John, looks good! Some edits below, let's keep improving it.

In parallel I've been having a Facebook discussion with Ben, Nina, Jean, and Harry. here's the overall plan-in-progress for the Feingold visit: http://get-fisa-right.wetpaint.com/page/GFR+heart+Sen.+Feingold

I also put the draft email up on the wiki at http://get-fisa-right.wetpaint.com/page/Draft+email+to+Sen+Feingold ... here's the current version

Honorable Senator Russ Feingold,

"Get FISA Right" started in July of 2008, when a group of some 23,000 people representing all sectors of the population rallied to get Senator Obama to oppose FISA. We continue to work actively today to get the new Obama administration and Congress to address FISA such that our 4th amendment rights don't continue to be violated.

We would love to hear your views on the political situation in Congress, and your strategy moving forward. And we offer our support to you, in any way we can, as you go forward in getting FISA right.

Good suggestions, Patrick.  Here's the revised salutation and first paragraph:

Senator Feingold,

"Get FISA Right" started in July of 2008, when a group of some 23,000 people representing all sectors of the population rallied to get Senator Obama to oppose the FISA Amendment Act. We continue to work actively today to get the new Obama administration and Congress to revise FISA and the PATRIOT Act to protect our constitutional rights and restore the rule of law.

PS: Does anybody know the proper form of address to a Senator?

The correct salutation was as before: Honorable Senator.....

One more time! I realized we should thank him ... and also sign the
letter. How's this?

Honorable Senator Feingold,

Thank you for your leadership in defending the Constitution and rule
of law on domestic spying and so many other issues.

"Get FISA Right" started in July of 2008, when a group of some 23,000
people representing all sectors of the population rallied to get
Senator Obama to oppose the FISA Amendment Act. We continue to work
actively today to get the new Obama administration and Congress to
revise FISA and the PATRIOT Act to protect our constitutional rights
and restore the rule of law.

We're very interested in hearing your views on the political situation
for domestic spying in Congress and your strategy for 2009. This
group offers our support to you, in any way we can, as you go forward
in getting FISA right.

Sincerely,

The members of Get FISA Right

not sure.  there's nothing listed in Congresspedia.  for now I guess send it in with the form and use your address as the return.

could somebody work on finding his email address?  thanks.

All,

According to http://www.conservativeusa.org/mega-cong.htm#Minnesota,
Senator Feingold's email address is russell_...@feingold.senate.gov

Unfortunately, I can't find any other source to corroborate.

After sending many e-mails to senators and congressmen that were not mine, I
have found that they bounce any e-mail that is not within their district
into "file 13," sending a letter stating same in a nice way.

If you are not in Feingold's district, you need to send the e-mail through
someone who is in his district. This is the only way it will get read.

We talked about this on the phone call and somebody reported that Feingold did reply to his email on FISA (even though he's from out of state).  Also we do have at least four in-state people who will be talking with him over the next few weeks.  So I think it's worth a shot.

Thanks for checking it out, Victor ... at this point my inclination is to do it via the web form for now and see what happens.  We can always follow up in other ways (Twitter, Facebook), etc.   This is kind of a formal introduction so it's best to go through the formal channels.

That’s good to know.  I have written Feingold before, but I must not have gotten the “right” e-mail address to send it as a non-resident in his district.

It's a good point in general, Laura: it's usually better to have somebody in-state write in.  But it's already almost 3:00 on the east coast and we would like to get it in before his staffers leave for the weekend.    At worst we'll follow up next week ...

Ok, here's the deal: I just called his office and their policy is:
- All email gets through but only email from Wi will be addressed and
responded to
- I told him we were a Constitutional group and asked that our mail to
be addressed
- He said he would pass on my request to 'screener'.

As, insurance, it might be good for Jean to send too.
