How about the tortoise shell? I see two pentagons in there. Perhaps an 8-freq dodecahedron?

the most basic example of polygons / polehydra  in nature (besides crystal lattices) are probably self-assembling proteins  - for instance, virus capsids and  Clathrin cages.

the Clarthrin  protein is particularly interesting - it first self-assembles in units units of 3 forming a triangular structure (called a triskelion).  These triangle units can then form pentagons and hexagons which assemble into geodesic spheres, or "cages".  Clarthrin cages are used by cells to transport materials during endocytosis and other processes.

They are everywhere, micro to macro. Glyptodon, Coccolithophores.
