Hey Geo-AI WG
Join us on 8/5/26 for a talk by
Arnt Salberg on
THOR: A Versatile Foundation Model for Earth Observation, Climate, and Society ApplicationsArnt Salberg is a Chief Research Scientist at the Norwegian Computing Center in Oslo, Norway, where he works in image analysis, machine learning, and Earth observation. His research focuses on developing deep learning, computer vision, and remote sensing methods for image data, with applications in land cover mapping and monitoring, emergency monitoring, marine science, coastal habitat mapping, foundation models, and analysis of data from satellites, seismic sensors, and marine echosounders. Salberg has led the work on developing THOR, a multimodal foundation model for Earth observation, for the European Space Agency.
In this talk, Arnt will discuss how THOR handles heterogeneous satellite sensors, enables flexible compute-accuracy trade-offs, and supports applications including land-cover mapping, flood and drought monitoring, sea-ice analysis, and other climate and societal challenges.
Excited for the talk!
Best,
