Hi Geo-AI Working Group,
Thrilled for our next talk this Wednesday. We will be joined Dr. Hugo Kyo Lee from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Title: Fine-tuning Foundation Models: Earth System Foundation Models for Downscaling and Prediction + LLM Applications
Hugo Lee is a data scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He received his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His work focuses on applying artificial intelligence, machine learning, uncertainty quantification, and satellite observations to advance climate model evaluation, downscaling, wildfire and air quality prediction, and decision-support systems.
Dr. Lee leads the Regional Climate Model Evaluation System project under NASA’s Earth Action program and a NASA NEWS project focused on enhanced water resource assessment. He is also developing agentic AI capabilities for NASA’s digital twins, including LLM-based interfaces, retrieval-augmented generation, knowledge graphs, and Model Context Protocol tools that connect foundation models with trusted NASA Earth science datasets and analytical workflows.
