We are thrilled to have another exciting installment of our lecture series this week. This week on 7/9 at 10 am CT, for a presentation from one of our industry collaborators, Lawrence Xiao, Co-Founder, CEO & CTO at Nika. 

Title: Geospatial AI Analyst Agent on the Next-Gen Geospatial Data Infrastructure

Lawrence is the Co-Founder of Nika, whose expertise directly aligns with the biodiversity geospatial tool development requirements. Lawrence's background demonstrates a rare combination of deep geospatial computing knowledge, production-scale optimization experience, and government sector understanding that makes him ideally positioned to guide this project from research algorithms to deployment-ready systems. During his work at Amazon Web Services, he was a public sector solutions architect, advancing many key project initiatives for the Singaporean government on architecture design such as large-scale geospatial analytics & artificial intelligence workflows through work on Analytics.gov as well as Government Confidential Commercial Cloud (GC3) and FormSG.

Lawrence's geospatial credentials are also particularly compelling for this biodiversity modeling initiative. As a recognized leader in the GeoAI open source community, he has been featured as a top builder at FOSS4G, the premier open-source geospatial conference, and invited as a keynote speaker across Asia and Australia for his geospatial innovations. His current work at Nika involves having created NikaPlanet, the flagship geospatial product that powers all of Nika’s sophisticated environmental analysis using satellite data, including automated carbon modeling through Google Earth Engine, Sentinel Hub, and Planet APIs – experience that directly translates to biodiversity modeling challenges.
