At St. George's Church, Madras, by the Rev. W. ROY, Alexander JOHNSTON, Esq. Garrison Surgeon of Fort St. George, a native of Dumfries, to Miss Babara [sic], daughter of the late Lieut.-Colonel Donald MACLEOD of the Madras army.
DEATHS.
In this City, on Friday the 14th inst. Mr. John CROTCHET, cabinet-maker, aged 23.
On Wednesday last, in Scotch-street, aged 53, Elizabeth, wife of Mr. Richard RIPLEY, formerly a last and patten maker in this city.
At Cockermouth, on Thursday last, Mrs. WITTED, mantua-maker, wife of Mr. D. WITTED, aged 61.
In Quay Street, Whitehaven, Mr. James BIGLANDS, tailor, aged 74.—Hannah, wife of Wm. Mc.CRACKIN, aged 33.—In Low Church Street, in his 47th year, Mr. JOPSON, formerly apothecary to the Whitehaven Dispensary.—In Senhouse Street, Mr. BOGIE, innkeeper.—In Robinson Fold, Queen Street, Mrs. CROSBY, widow, at an advanced age.
At Harrington, Mrs. Mary PORTER, aged 77.
In Kendal, at a very advanced age, Thomas MACKRETH, formerly of Green-foot, in Old Hutton. Jane, daughter of Mr. Joseph PARK, of the Pump Inn. At Kentmere Hall, aged 37, Eleanor, wife of Edmund THOMPSON. At Kirkby Stephen, Mr. Wm. WHEELWRIGHT, aged 66. Mrs. Ann WHITEHEAD, aged 41.
On the 11th inst. at the house of her brother-in-law, the Rev. John KNIPE, Middleton, Westmorland, Miss Agnes HOLMES, daughter of the late Mr. Thomas HOLMES, of Sedbergh.
At Ambleside, on the 6th inst. Mr. William BAXTER, aged 73. It is somewhat remarkable that in the same house in which he breathed his last, he had resided for half a century, and during that time never slept out of it but one night.
At Dumfries, on the 16th curt. Mr. John GLOVER, mason, in his 48th year. On Friday last, Matilda, daughter of Mr. Mungo THRESHIE, tailor.
At Hexham, on the 14th inst. greatly respected, Mr. TAYLOR, many years in the establishment of John ERRINGTON, Esq. of Beaufront. The 15th inst. Sarah, wife of Wm. SWINBURNE, watchmaker. She was hanging out clothes on a line the preceding day, when a slate fell from the house upon the chair on which she was standing, and the fright occasioned her death.
At Hertingfordbury, on the 11th inst. aged 72, the Rev. Henry RIDLEY, D. D., rector of that parish and St. Andrew's, Hertford, and of Kirkby Underdale, Yorkshire; master of St. Thomas's Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, prebendary of Gloucester, and one of his Majesty's justices of the peace for the counties of Herts and Gloucester. Dr. RIDLEY was brother to the late, and uncle to the present, Sir M. W. RIDLEY, bart. M. P., and brother-in-law to the Lord Chancellor.
