At Carlisle, on Thursday the 17th inst. Mr. Joseph STODDART, an eminent manufacturer in that city.

 

Lately at the same place, aged 58, John SKELTON: When a boy he was detected assisting some smugglers conveying their goods, and was confined upwards of 18 years in the county jail at Carlisle; during his confinement, he had nothing to subsist on but the usual jail allowance, and the donations of the humane; yet with an unparalleled frugality he there hoarded a small sum of money, and employed it in the manner of a pawn-broker, receiving a halfpenny a week for the loan of a shilling, which through length of time, so increased his finances, that after his discharge he lived independent, though not much respected, and died rich.

 

Wednesday se'nnight, at Penrith, Mr. Rowland WATSON, an eminent coach-maker.

Sunday se'ennight, at Bishop Auckland, Henry THORP, Esq. a gentleman of large fortune, and greatly esteemed.

Friday the 11th inst. at Thornbarrow near Penrith, Mr. Thomas JAMES, in the 82d year of his age. As no man ever lived a better, or, in his sphere, a more useful life, so did none ever more fully experience the support of a good conscience at the painful conclusion of it.

 

A few days ago, in the 51st year of his age, Mr. TYSON, at Stony Croft.

A few days ago, at Drigg, Mr. Matthew DICKINSON, aged 91 years.
