MARRIED

 

A few days ago, at Grassmere, Mr. Edward PARKE of Skellwith near Ambleside, one of the people called Quakers, (who was baptized previous to the celebration of the nuptials) to Miss SPEDDING of the same place.

[According to FamilySearch, Edward PARK and Jane SPEDDING married on 13 Nov 1778 at Grasmere. According to the marriage bond, they were both aged 22.]

 

Yesterday at St. Bees, Mr. Peter SIDDLETON, to Miss Mary ATKINS, both of this parish.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Peter SINGLETON and Mary AKIN married on 30 Nov 1778 at St. Bees.]

 

A few days ago at Leicester, William GRAHAM, Esq. lately arrived from India, to Mrs. Catharine MACAULAY, the celebrated historian.

[According to Wikipedia, they married on 14 Nov 1778 at All Saints, Leicester. She was a 47-year-old widow, and William GRAHAM was aged 21.]

 

A few days ago at Rochdale, Mr. John MEADOWCROFT, aged 88, to Miss Alice MILNES, aged 18.

[According to the Parish Register, John MEADOWCROFT of Hudson's and Alice MILLS of Spotland married on 15 Nov 1778 at St. Chad, Rochdale.]

 

DIED

 

A few days ago, Sir John DOUGLAS, Bart. of Killhead, North Britain: he is succeeded in title and estate by William DOUGLAS, (now Sir William DOUGLAS, Bart.) member of parliament for —— ——, at present resident at Arkelby Hall near Cockermouth in this county.

[According to Wikipedia, Sir John DOUGLAS, Bart. of Kelhead, Annan, Dumfriesshire, born c.1708, died 13 Nov 1778. His son William (c.1730-1783), who succeeded him, was MP for Dumfries Burghs 1768-1780.]
