MARRIED

 

At Carlisle, the 19th ult. Mr. LOSH, an eminent Surgeon and apothecary, to the agreeable Widow ROBINSON, with a handsome fortune.

[According to FamilySearch, Joseph LOSH and Elizabeth ROBINSON married on 26 Nov 1778 at St. Mary, Carlisle.]

 

Saturday last at St. James's Church in this town, Mr. CLEMENTSON, jun. tobacconist in King street, to Miss DARGUE, daughter of Capt. Cuthbert DARGUE of the Market-place.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Thomas CLEMENTSON and Mary DARGUE married on 04 Dec 1788 at St. James, Whitehaven.]

 

A few days ago at Lorton, by the Rev. Mr. FISHER, Mr. JOPSON, late of London, to Miss NORMAN, of Buttermire.

[According to FamilySearch, Robert JOPSON and Jane NORMAN married on 28 Nov 1778 at Lorton.]

 

DIED

 

Sunday last, after a short illness, Mr. William PALMER, aged 76, many years an eminent ship-builder in this place: for the sake of imitation, it may not be improper to observe, that as he lived greatly respected, and acquired a considerable fortune with the fairest character, his death is sincerely regretted by a numerous acquaintance. Mr. PALMER may be said to have been the first ship-builder at this port, as that art, when he began business, was in its infancy here, and its present improved state may in a great measure be attributed to his application and ingenuity.

On Thursday the 3d inst. at Hexham, Mr. George GIBSON, a Roman Catholic priest, of a lingering illness; a gentleman universally respected by people of every rank and denomination.
