COUNTY SESSIONS: COCKERMOUTH.

The Court was opened on Tuesday last, at eleven, and the usual forms having been gone through, John WILSON, Esq. of Brigham, took the oaths, and qualified as a magistrate. Some removal orders were afterwards filed, and there being no appeals, the court adjourned a few minutes after one o'clock.

The Court met on Wednesday at half-past ten, when eight young men, ship-carpenters' apprentices at Whitehaven, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting a person of the name of M'MILLAN, who had gone to work at Messrs. BROCKLEBANK's building-yard, contrary to the regulations of the journeymen's association. The prosecutor recommended them to mercy.

The court, in passing sentence, strongly commented on the dangerous tendency of workmen combining against their masters, and expressed regret that such respectable young men should be so misled by persons who have neither the good of themselves or of their masters at heart. Such occurrences, the chairman observed, were fortunately rare in this county, but it was necessary that an example should be made; the whole eight were therefore sentenced to one month's hard labour in the house of correction at Carlisle.

George CONBERRY and Richard CRANNEY, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting W. DUFTON and L. DICKINSON, of Workington, on Christmas eve; to be imprisoned two days at Cockermouth.

Thomas CONNOLLY, for an assault on W. BLANCHARD, to be imprisoned in Carlisle for three weeks, and kept to hard labour.

Roger WILLIAMSON, for an assault on Robt. TOLSON, his groom; fined £5.

John WARWICK, Samuel BIRD, and William SIMPSON, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing one cock and eight hens from the premises of Ephraim PEAT, of the parish of Dacre—sentenced to six months hard labour in Carlisle gaol.

George VINCH, and James CALLOW, pleaded guilty to an indictment for stealing a quantity of oak-staves from on board a vessel in Whitehaven harbour, the property of Messrs. BROCKLEBANK—six months' imprisonment and hard labour in Carlisle gaol.

James RAY pleaded guilty to a charge of feloniously entering the shop of Mr. TODD, ironmonger, in Whitehaven—to be also imprisoned and kept to hard labour for six months in Carlisle gaol.

Mr. Thos. SMITH, mason, of Maryport, was appointed bridge-master for the wards of Allerdale above and below Derwent, in the room of Mr. Thos. MARTIN, who has resigned.
