In 2007 we started an excel sheet on Listers and the surnames they were researching. Good grief how did we get all those folks to cooperate?

Perhaps some industrious soul with not enough to do could update it. 😉

No I don't think so, I do have Grahams in my family but is such a common name I highly doubt he is one of mine!

Now if a Birney, Rutherford or Sealby appeared I would be super excited!!

I'd not come across this database ( at least I dont think I have as there is so much out there!) 

As it has people researching some of my less common surnames I'm going to sit down later with a brew and spent a happy time going through this list!

Sue, a few of us got together and built it as listers posted their names. We didn’t have a website to store it, so everyone just saved it. Email addresses may be out of date.

Notice there is just 1 Reveley!! I never found any others, but I had a grand time meeting other listers when I visited England, and y’all became my family. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the posts.

Petra’s transcriptions are amazing!

I think the list is too old to be updated. Too many people on there will have moved on or are no longer interested/able to do research. And those still around may have more and different surname interests now.

 

If we are going to have a surname list, I think we would have to start it from scratch.

The easiest way to update would be to get a list of all the current members and delete the others, correct the old emails.

Then post it again, and anyone not on the list 20 years ago could add members if they wanted.

So is this list also available on the CFHS website? Sarah attached an excel file which is the one I've been looking through. 

It looks really useful and since my reply to your original post of the names list, someone has contacted me about possible family links.

Such a helpful bunch of people involved with the CFHS posts. A few years ago a very helpful chap helped me completly blow apart my 30 year brick wall!

I don’t think there is a CFHS members’ list of surname interests on the Cumbria FHS website. Perhaps that is something David could consider? But it would have to be an up to date list.

2007 crikey, this set me thinking.  At that time one or two of us were going up to Whitehaven from all around the world for the 60th anniversary of the William Pit disaster.  Amanda from Canada for the release of her book "104 Men" and Margaret from Australia and myself, amongst others.  We all knew we would visit the Record Office as often as possible so we came up with the idea of creating a tee-shirt so we would recognise everyone.  It was to be emblazoned with "Cul Googlies" across the front.  Sadly it didn't come to fruition, but we did all meet up.  Next year it will be the 80th anniversary, where have all the years gone.
