I just tried to follow a link to Cultrans, the Cumberland newspaper transcriptions website, only to land on a page that says that the account has been suspended, and "Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible."
Does anybody know what has happened? This must be a recent thing as I accessed the website within the last few months without problems.
Who is actually responsible for maintaining this site? Is it possible that this site has to be paid for, and the payments have lapsed?
I have a vague memory that the site was set up by someone called Jim – perhaps he is no longer able to pay, for whatever reason?
Does Barb know? She was quite heavily involved in uploading transcriptions to the site.

Thanks, Sarah.
I have sent an email, and also one to the other email address you sent me.
Incidentally, the document transcriptions website also no longer exists...

Thanks, George. That is really helpful.
I have tried emailing Jim on two email addresses, both linked to his websites which are now suspended/defunct. Obviously I did not get an answer, but there was a bounce-back from his personal website which said his inbox was full.
I am in contact with David Huddart, the new webmaster of Cumbria FHS, to see whether there is something Cumbria FHS can do to save the site (or at least the contents).
I also found a phone number for Jim on the internet (but not sure whether still current) and will try to phone him (or his wife) to see what the state of affairs is.
Will keep you posted.

Maybe Jim has run off to Australia after having a torrid online affair with Dorothy. 😉
Those things happen these days. Some of us have old flames all over the English-speaking globe thanks to merry England mailing lists.

The cultrans website now no longer can be found at all – not even as suspended. (it is still in the Wayback Machine though.)
David Huddart and I have been trying various means of contacting Jim Patterson without success.
If anybody knows anything about Jim (even if it is out of date), can they please email me directly.
Even snippets like where he lived – which country? Where in the country? could be useful.
Does anybody have a postal address for him? Or a phone number? Or even knows which surnames he was interested in from a family history point of view? Does he have an Ancestry account? (There are 50 Ancestry members called Jim Patterson, and 500 called James Patterson...)
Again: Please don't send any information about Jim to the list – please send to me personally. petra.mi...@doctors.org.uk
Many thanks,
Petra
