MARRIED

 

A few days ago at St. James's Church, Mr. Joseph CLARK, to Mrs. YOUNG, daughter of Mr. William CUPPAGE of Moor Row.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Joseph CLARK of this parish and Betty YOUNG of Egremont married on 31 Jul 1779 at St. James, Whitehaven.]

 

DIED

 

Wednesday last at Cockermouth, Mr. Benjamin WILSON, surgeon; he was a gentleman, skilful, humane, and conscientious in the exercise of his profession; faithful and zealous in his friendship; and kind and affectionate to his relations; and to crown the whole, he was an honest man: His death is a misfortune to the public, and a severe affliction to his friends; but should not be lamented too deeply by the latter, not being sorry as men without hope.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, he was buried on 07 Aug 1779 at Cockermouth.]

 

Lately at Nether-Stenton in Birkby, (late of Ellerbeck) Mr. Thomas SMITH, in the 88th year of his age, being the oldest man in that parish; he was remarkable for his skill in agriculture, and died much esteemed by a numerous acquaintance.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Thomas SMITH of Ellerbeck, Muncaster, yeoman, was buried on 20 Jul 1779 at Drigg.]

 

Monday last at Harrington, in the 44th year of her age, Mrs. LITTLE, wife of Captain William LITTLE of that place.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Ann LITTLE, wife of William, was buried on 04 Aug 1779 at Harrington.]
