A few days ago in Wigton, Mr. Thomas PORTER, an eminent carrier in that place, to Miss SMITH of Micklethwaite.

[According to FamilySearch, Henry (not Thomas) PORTER and Dorothy SMITH married on 30 May 1779 at Thursby (not Wigton).]

 

A few days ago, at Carlisle, Mr. John ROBINSON, of Scalescugh, to Miss Peggy NICHOLSON, of Bat house.

[According to FamilySearch, John ROBINSON and Margaret NICHOLSON, both aged 30, married on 15 May 1779 at St. Cuthbert, Carlisle.]

 

On the 27th ult. at the same place, Mr. Lancelot BECK, of Botcher-gate, to Miss Betty DRYDEN, of Stainton.

[According to FamilySearch, the bride was Elizabeth DREYDON, and they married on 24 May 1779 at St. Cuthbert, Carlisle. According to the Marriage Bond, the groom was a widower and carrier; the bride's surname was spelt DREYDEN.]

 

Monday se'nnight, at the same place, Mr. Thomas LOSH, glover in that city, to Miss Jenny ARMSTRONG, of the said place.

[According to FamilySearch, the bride's forename was Jane; they married on 31 May 1779 at St. Mary, Carlisle.]

 

Lately at Grassmere, Westmorland, by the Rev. Mr. RAWLINSON, Mr. John JACKSON of Langdale, to Miss NELSON, of the same place.

[According to FamilySearch, the bride was Susan NELSON, and they married on 15 May 1779 at Grasmere.]

 

A few days ago at Egremont, by the Rev. Mr. SOUTHWARD, Mr. John SUOTHWARD [sic – SOUTHWARD in Copeland Registers Index], aged 64, to Miss Jane BELL, aged 25.

[They married on 29 May 1779.]

 

Wednesday se'nnight at Garstang, Mr. Henry WALMSLEY, bookseller in Lancaster, to Miss Betty WALKER of Garstang.

[According to FamilySearch, they married on 26 May 1779.]

 

Yesterday at Abbey-Holm, Mr. GLAISTER of Red Flatt, to Miss WILLS of Long-Newton, an agreeable young lady with a handsome fortune.

[According to a transcription of the Bishop's Transcripts, William GLAISTER and Mary WILLS, both of this parish, married on 05 Jun 1779 at Holme Cultram.]

 

DIED

 

Wednesday last, in an advanced age, Mr. Robert PICKTHALL of Stub-Place in Lancashire; he was a considerable dealer in cattle, and respected as a truly honest man.

[Stubb Place is in Bootle Parish, Cumberland. According to the Copeland Registers Index, Robert PICKTHALL of Stubbplace, Drover, aged 60, was buried on 04 Jun 1779 at Bootle.]

 

At Guilsland Wells, Joseph DACRE of Kirklington, Esq. and one of his Majesty's justices of the Peace for the county of Cumberland.

[According to the BTs Transcript, Joseph Appleby DACRE, Esq., Widower, was buried on 07 Jun 1779 at Kirklinton.]
