DIED
Last week at Knipe in Bampton, Westmorland, Mr. Thomas SIMPSON (in an advanced age) nephew to the Rt. Rev. Dr. GIBSON, late Lord Bishop of London, who was also a native of that place and received there the rudiments of that education which, with the strictness of his morals, raised him to so high a station in the church. Mr. SIMPSON proved himself not unworthy this great affinity, being justly esteemed the pious christian, the invariable friend, and truly honest man.
Friday last, at Westward near Wigton, in an advanced age, the Rev. Mr. PAPE. He was constant in the discharge of his duty as a clergyman, and exemplary in his life and conversation. Truly beloved and honoured by his parishioners and acquaintances, his death is sincerely regretted.
[According to FamilySearch, John PAPE was buried on 16 Nov 1778 at Westward.]
Last week at Wigan, in Lancashire, aged 109, Mr. John HUSON: he was a drummer in King William's service at the Battle of Boyne.
[According to the Scots Magazine, he died on 04 Nov 1778. He had retired at the death of Queen Anne.]
