A few days ago, Mr. James BATEMAN of Manchester, to Miss NICHOLSON of Kendal.

[According to the Parish Register, James BATEMAN of the Parish of Manchester Batchelor and Margaret NICHOLSON of this Parish Spinster married on 11 May 1779 at St. Sepulchre, Holborn, City of London.]

 

Sunday last, at Workington, Mr. Henry DALE of Sandwith, to Mrs. HIGHLANDS, widow, of Winscales.

[According to the Parish Register Transcript, Henry DALE of the parish of St. Bees, Yeoman, and Margaret HYLAND, widow, married on 16 May 1779. According to the Marriage License Bond, he was aged 48 and she aged 46.]

 

Same day, at Caldbeck, by the Rev. Mr. WILMOT, Mr. BATTIE, dyer, to Miss BROWN of the same place.

[According to FamilySearch, Frances BEATTY or BEATIE and Betty BROWN were married on 16 May 1779 at Caldbeck.]

 

Saturday se'ennight, at Newcastle, Henry ELLISON of Parkhouse, Esq. to Miss ISAACSON of Newcastle.

[According to FamilySearch, the bride's forename was Henrietta; they married on 15 May 1779 at St. John, Newcastle.]

 

At Gretna Green, Mr. BELL, carrier in Brampton, to Miss GRAHAM of Kirklinton.

 

Sunday last, at St. James's Church, Mr. CHRISTIAN, mate of the Vigilance, to Miss PENNYMAN of Queen street.

[According to FamilySearch, Robert CHRISTIE and Jane PENNIMENT married on 23 May 1779 at Holy Trinity (not St. James), Whitehaven.]

A few days ago in Queen-street, Mrs. WOOD, wife of Mr. William WOOD, slater.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Jane WOOD was buried on 14 May 1779 at St. James, Whitehaven.]

 

Last week, at Workington, Capt. Richard SIBSON of the Musgrave.

 

Same place, Mrs. ADAIR, in an advanced age.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Sarah, wife of John ADAIR, was buried on 17 May 1779 at Workington.]

 

Thursday last, at Workington, Mr. John LOWRY, in his 48th year.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, John LOWRY was buried on 20 May 1779 at Workington.]

 

Monday last, John BORROWDALE, eldest son of Mr. Job BORROWDALE of Borrowdale Ground, Lancashire;—and on Saturday last, Mrs. BORROWDALE, his wife.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, John BORRADALE was buried on 20 May 1779, and Margret BORRADALE on 24 May 1779, both at Corney. Borrowdale Ground is in the Parish of Corney in Cumberland, not in Lancashire.]

 

Last week, at Penrith, Mr. Joseph IRELAND, formerly an officer in the excise.

[According to the Parish Register Transcript, Joseph IRELAND, aged 79, was buried on 13 May 1779 at St. Andrew, Penrith.]

 

A few days ago, at Boo, near Carlisle, Mr. John NORMAN, in the 75th year of his age; a gentleman very notable for settling litigious disputes amongst his neighbours.

 

At Carlisle, Mrs. LATTIMER, wife of Mr. LATTIMER, late of Annis Well.

[According to FamilySearch, Ann LATTIMER, wife of David LATTIMER, aged 60, was buried on 16 May 1779 at Carlisle.]

 

Same place, Mrs. GRAHAM, wife of Mr. GRAHAM an eminent butcher there.

 

Yesterday  se'ennight, at Rawcliffe near Carlisle, the Rev. Mr. ROBINSON of that place, aged 80.

[According to the Clergy of the Church of England Database, William ROBINSON had been curate of Rockcliffe since 1753.]

 

Lately at Pontoise in France, Lady BEWICK of Close House, in Northumberland; her remains (though she was a protestant) were interred in the Convent there.

[According to the Wikipedia article about her son Calverley BEWICKE, she was Mary née HUISH, daughter of Robert HUISH. She and her husband Sir Robert BEWICKE had 12 children.]

 

Wednesday last at Cocklygill in Lamplugh, Mrs. Jane BOWMAN, aged eighty; she weighed twenty eight stone.
