MARRIED

 

Daniel WILSON of Dallamtower, in Westmorland, Esq. to Miss EGERTON, only daughter of Samuel EGERTON, of Tatton Park, in Cheshire, Esq. and member of Parliament for that county: with a fortune of 500,000 l. They came to their seat at Dallamtower on Wednesday last.

[According to FamilySearch, they married on 26 Oct 1778 at Rostherne, Cheshire; the bride's name was Beatrix EGERTON.]

 

At Kendal on Tuesday last, Mr. Joseph SIMPSON, Mercer, to Miss Rebecca MILLER of the same place.

[According to FamilySearch, the groom was Joseph SYMPSON, and they married on 27 Oct 1778 at Kendal.]

 

A few days ago, at Altcar in Lancashire, (after a courtship of 27 years) Mr. Wm. BALSHAW, in his 94th year, to Miss Peggy BILLINGTON, a little turned of 95.

[According to the Parish Register, William BALSHAW, Yeoman, and Margaret BILLINGTON, Widow, both of this Parish, married on 20 Oct 1778 at St. Michael, Altcar.]

 

A few days ago, at Carlisle, Mr. HODGSON, surgeon, to Miss CLIFF, eldest daughter to Major CLIFF.

[According to FamilySearch, John HODGSON and Maria CLIFF or CLIFFE, daughter of John & Sarah CLIFF or CLIFFE, married on 25 Oct 1778 at St. Mary, Carlisle.]

 

DIED

 

Last week at Newtown near Carlisle, Mrs. Jane DAVISON, aged 76, a lady of exemplary piety and unbounded charity.

[According to FamilySearch, Jane DAVISON, aged 64, was buried on 24 Oct 1778 at Carlisle.]

 

At Newcastle, Mr. Ralph COOKE, merchant.

[According to the Bishop's Transcripts, Ralph COOK, merchant, was buried on 01 Dec 1778 at St. Nicholas, Newcastle upon Tyne.]

 

At Hexham, Mr. John GREEN, an eminent attorney.

[According to FamilySearch, John GREEN was buried on 31 Oct 1778 at Hexham.]
