DEATHS.
In English-street, Carlisle, on Tuesday last the 16th inst. much respected, Mrs. Ann TURNER, mother-in-law of Mr. ASHBRIDGE, grocer, aged 73 years.
On Tuesday last, Mr. Robert HOPE, of Denton-Hill, near this City, aged 20 years.
At Blackwell, on the 17th inst. after a severe illness, Mr. Thomas NIXON, aged 70, greatly respected.
On the 16th instant, at Scotby, in the 25th year of her age, Ruth SURTES, much and deservedly respected.
At Heathlands, on the 14th inst. aged 33, Dorothy, youngest daughter of the late John FORSTER, Esq.
At Longtown, on the 13th inst. Mr. Robert ELLIOT, aged 80 years, much regretted.
At Penrith, on the 13th inst. Mrs. Mary SANDERSON, of Sandgatehead, aged 54. Same place, on the 14th, Jane, the wife of Mr. Samuel JAMESON, carpenter, aged 31. Same place, on the 15th, Mr. John HAMILTON, Townhead, aged 72.
At Hesket-New-Market, on Wednesday week, Mr. John SEVAILE, at the advanced age of 102. This man was in the possession of the whole of his faculties, excepting his hearing, which for the last few years of his life had become considerably impaired.
On Friday last, at Eastbank, Cannobie, Mr. WEIR, surgeon, aged 75, sincerely regretted by a numerous circle of friends and acquaintance.
At Dumfries, on Monday, Mr. Francis WATSON, joiner, 59. At Gasstown, on the 12th curt., Mr. John JAMIESON, in his 28th year. At Dumfries, Miss Janet THOMPSON, aged 36.
At Ardgowan, Scotland, Sir Michael SHAW STEWART, Bart., Lord Lieutenant of the county of Renfrew.
At the Marsh, near Shirehampton, Mr. Edward PAINTER, aged 77. His death was occasioned by the stinging of a wasp, which was unobserved in a cup of beer of which he was drinking; and although after very considerable efforts he succeeded in throwing the insect out of his mouth, he died of suffocation in consequence of the swelling of the throat within half an hour.
At Douglas, Isle of Man, in the 80th year of her age, Mrs. Eleanor LAWRENCE.
Olab [sic] PHELAIR, the celebrated Persian Poet, died lately at Ispahan, aged 96.—He was the VOLTAIRE of Persia, and has left behind him a considerable number of MSS. on mathematics, astronomy, politics, &c. [According to the Encyclopædia Americana of 1832, his name was Blab PHELAIR.]
