GICD Plant Sales – 2014
I. TOMATO PLANT SALE—Invitation for community garden members and supporters
When: Saturday March 22, 10am to 4pm
Where: CENTER FOR GROWING PEOPLE greenhouse, Our Saviour Community
Gardens, 1616 N. Jim Miller Rd.It is tomato planting time!!!! Once again Gardeners in Community Development has grown the best varieties for you to plant.
We have 28 varieties this year, including some 25 heirlooms. You can choose from a dozen slicing tomatoes, colors from red through yellow and pink, orange and dark purple hues, two kinds of paste, and heat tolerant cherries.
Given the recent cold weather our 2014 plants have grown slowly. With our cool weather currently, waiting an extra week or two to set plants out into your garden is best. Every year we say this year’s plants are spectacular, and as usual, the 2014 plants are looking great!
The price is $2 each. They are growing in 18 oz drink cups so they have great strong deep roots and are easy to un-pot.
We will sell no more than 8 plants per gardener, and only 4 of each variety. That should be plenty for most community garden plots, and that way these superior plants can be enjoyed by more gardeners. Are GICD tomatoes plants the best? Yes, because:
We grow specially sourced seed (we save seed from our own plantings) using organic methods. We add our own compost to the soil medium, add worm castings from our own bins, use rainwater, and water with compost tea brewed in our greenhouse. This nurtures good soil biology necessary to grow healthy roots and strong plants. Each year we get reports that our plants out performed those from other sources. We know from over 18 years of experience growing tomatoes in the Dallas area that our plants and the gardeners that plant them are the very best.
Please download the List of Varieties and make your choices before coming to the sale. Come early, because when they are gone -- that’s it! For information: Gro...@flash.net,
