Herb and vegetable varieties (including some heirlooms) grown by GICD volunteers include:
25 peppers--from fiery hot Habaneros to sweet Spanish Spice
11 eggplants--long Asian’s, tear drop and round Italian’s, gourmet picks
11 basils—Thai and lemon, sweet, cinnamon and purple
other herbs--chives, bunch onions, lemon balm, mints, fennel, dill, and cilantro. At the Fitzhugh location our refugee gardeners will be selling Asian vegetable and herb plants.
Cash and checks accepted. Come early if you want to buy a couple of the famous Texas Wild tomatoes (usually these sell out!).

AND, also . . . . .Thank you for your votes!
Vote to help GICD win a grant!
WE really need your votes! Please vote daily and get your family and friends to vote too!
Please help us win money to use at the Center for Growing People (Our Saviour Community Gardens) to build accessible pathways and beds for gardeners with disabilities.
This contest includes 15 community gardens from across the U.S., and the five receiving the most votes will share $20,000 from the DeLoach Winery. Winners will be announced in the October/November issue of Organic Gardening magazine.
You can vote once each day from now until August 1, 2011. We are currently in second place, which is excellent. But we must keep the pressure on.
Visit www.deloachcommunitygardens.com to view videos from nominated gardens. GICD's entry is next to the last, Center for Growing People. Look for the picture below.

Weeding at the Center for Growing People, Just Greens pantry garden, at Our Saviour. Thanks to everyone who has been voting and spreading the word. We need more support! This has been very exciting and with just a few more votes each day we have a very strong chance of wining this much needed grant. In these times money is very difficult to raise, and your simple act of going online to the DeLoach Community Gardens -- Vote for Your Favorite Community Garden, website sponsored by DeLoach Vineyards and Organic Gardening Magazine, can make a significant difference in helping us build a more accessible enabling garden.
