EVER GROWING

June 28, 2011

News

Tomatoes are ripe and its time to make salsa.  This is short notice, we know, but Tiah Lambert is ready to teach you how to make salsa this coming Saturday, July 2nd.  There is only enough space for 20 people at the table, so you must reserve a spot.  Your cost is $15, and you can take home a pint for an extra $5.  To RSVP or get more information email to gro...@flash.net.

Summer Fun and Kids in Our Gardens.  Since the second week of June, and through July, two youth groups, Summer in the City (sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas) and Team Water Works youths (in partnership with Dallas Water Department) are coming once each week to lend a hand while learning and experiencing gardening.  These young volunteers are making a difference, and no doubt some will be gardeners in the future.

So Many New Gardens we have lost track.  It seems that just yesterday there were only a handful of community gardens in the Dallas area, and now there are more than 30.  We try to keep a current list on our website to help people make connections.  www.gardendallas.org/Area%20Gardens2.htm  If you would like to help us make corrections or update this list please email us.  For example, not on our list yet, the Tarrant County Food Bank helped start 8 new community gardens in the past few months.  That is amazing!

Our Greatest Plant Sale Ever!  We made over $8,300 at our plant sale this year.  We really appreciate all our wonderful supporters that came out to buy plants.  The tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and herbs grown by GICD were real hits.  Our main contributors of plants were nurseries and growers such as YC Nursery, Bruce Miller, Green Lake, and Covington’s.  Other major contributors included Jimmy’s Food Store, the Pleasant Grove Food Pantry, the Growing and Giving Home Schoolers, and Aggie Feed Store.  We give a great big thanks to one and all!!

VOTE!   Thanks for Your Votes, and Please Keep Them Coming!
Please vote daily and get your family and friends to vote too!   You can vote once each day from now until August 1, 2011.  Visit www.deloachcommunitygardens.com to view videos from nominated gardens.  GICD's entry is next to the last, Center for Growing People

Thanks to everyone who has been voting and spreading the word. With your daily vote we have a very strong chance of wining this much needed grant.  Please VOTE NOW
We Just Might Win!  GICD’s Center for Growing People is currently in second place.  Some of you may have forgotten, and some never got started.  We need to keep our numbers up, and not fall behind.
