We had a meeting last week to discuss the game development class. Things have changed some and I'm still working on picking a book, but I wanted to just give some news to those that have been asking.

The final game projects will be done with the Torque engine.
We will probably use the Unreal engine in the first part/half of the class.

We do not have source to Unreal and it was agreed upon by the curriculum board that it would be best to use an engine we have source for. We have source with Torque and so far I think it is a great engine to learn. The board includes a number of people from industry including Blizzard and Obsidian.

The books I am looking at from my favorites so far to my least favorites. These are my final four to choose from.

The game programmers guide to Torque - Edward F. Maurina III
Mastering Unreal Technolog - Busby, Parrish, Van Eenwyk
3D Game Programming All In One - Finney
Unreal Script Game Programming All In One - Flynt, Caviness

My all time favorite, but will not be part of class -
Tricks of the 3D Game Programming Gurus - LaMothe

All those books have links from the http://www.gamedev360.com website.

I am going to try and meet with Dr. Fahy before the end of the year to confirm the actual books. We have had a couple of discussions on the topic.

Hope that helps. Have a great vacation.

Wood
