Two months after our class ended I was sort of missing developing a new game example each week so I decided to try and see if I could create a complete game in a week. I did this for five weeks in a row and eventually had to stop as I had another class to teach. I was considering doing this for 52 weeks and may still do that, but not until after the next game dev class is done. For now it is an idle idea. I've only shown this to a few people, but you are welcome to try it.
In only giving myself a week to complete
each game I had to make a lot of cut design choices. I tended to try
and focus on the game mechanic more than anything else. Wildly different and creative was the goal. Once I had that
where I wanted it, I back filled with art and sound. The idea was to
make a fun game that "I" would like to play and there are two that I
really like, EmPathMe and GeoBounce. Your mileage may vary as I like technically challenging arcade style games.
The core code I used to create each of these games (except the stupid flash game) was Tmpl.zip example I used in class and is still available on the website.
If you know anyone that is going to take the game development class next semester, please have them sign up for this mailing list.
