Hello folks,

We have a new Gaia beta for you this weekend: http://bit.ly/IWSTCt

There are a bunch of improvements this time - please see the release notes on the TestFlight link.

As always, let us know if you have any issue with this build. We'll ship it next week some time if it looks good to you.

Regards,
Andrew

Good Evening Folks,

We have an update for the 6.4 beta. Please see the release notes and download here: http://bit.ly/KDR8XD

If you haven't loaded the previous beta, v6.4 defaults to the high-res topos, has better graphs, and calculates ascent accurately, among other things. The release tonight just adds a few bug fixes.

Regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew and company.

I use Gaia to record my walks. Works great a giving me the stats for my walks and keeping me from wondering around lost in the woods. Two great features.

Ever since you let me into the beta program I always just run the beta.

Since the 6.4 beta I have found an issue, thought it was me, but checked again with today's release.
I cannot currently change the color of the last several tracks that are in the saved tabbed.

At the beginning of each of my walks I start a new track, turn on that track then turn off previous tracks.
A few days ago the track, in it's random sequence went red. I do not like red - warning/error indicator in my mind.
So I tried to change it. No go.
I cannot change the color of the last three tacks which are all red.
I just tested and discovered I cannot change the color of any of the tracks.

I currently have 23 tracks and this started 3 tracks ago.

Is there a new feature or option that I missed?
Or have I found a new feature/bug?

BTW, as a developer myself I now understand, as a tester for you guys, the hesitancy of some testers to report bugs.... that feeling that it may be me and not the software.
In my office we call it PICNIC... Problem In Chair Not In Computer.

Keep up the good work. I love the software. It works for my exercise hikes and the Boy Scouts in my troop appreciate that we do not get lost on our longer adventures.... we just make detours.

See ya,
Kent

Hi Kent,

Thanks for the bug report! It seems I did indeed break changing the
track color. I've fixed it, so you'll be able to change the colors
again after the next beta.

Glad you're liking the app. Please let us know if you notice anything
else funny in any beta, or the live app.

As Anna said thanks for the report!

Here's a build that fixes the issue: http://bit.ly/JTD6W2

I hope everyone feels comfortable telling us these things :)

Hey folks,

We have one more update for this beta: http://tflig.ht/LtFLlj

If this looks good, I will add in the step where I send you a version that updates your store version too.

After this release, we have a couple of big features to drop :)

Andrew

Any one notice that with Gaia on the iPad 3 it seems to stutter when moving around the map, even when tiles all ready downloaded?

Hey Pete,

Do you mean the beta or the store version, or both? And do you mean with or without trails and waypoints showing?

We made big changes to how the maps work in the beta.

I will have a look on my iPad 3

Andrew

Both versions, no trails or waypoints
, but POI's are showing.
If I compare it to google maps in satellite mode you can really notice theres a rendering lag even on tiles already downloaded and allot times it seems to be re rendering tiles already loaded and stutters when trying move fast around the map. Do not know if this also happens on the iPad 2, but I do not remember it behaving this way

Hey Pete,

1) On the Google Satellite map, that's a totally different map view. Its performance has no relation to the other layers, and I'd just get rid of it if not for the foreign users.

2) I was testing iPad 3 and iPad 1 map scrolling today, and iPad 3 seems noticeably faster, which I would expect and hope.

Can you reboot your iPad and tell me if you still see the same behavior? i wonder if it's memory related.

Rebooted iPad and launched Gaia test. Seems to have helped. Smoother, still seems a little slow drawing topos. When I was talking about google maps, I was talking about the built in maps app. That to me thatnis the gold standard (Hope apple does not screw it up)
