Hi guys,
I just picked up one of these, supposed to be shipped in spring/summer

http://smartphones.reviewed.com/features/gotenna-first-impressions-review

It sounds like they will be opening up a SDK to add support in apps other than their own.
Might be worth looking into since it probably used in the back country allot. Would be great to use gaia for maps.

I have talked to the GoTenna founders a bit, seems like a really neat device.

We might support it - just depends on how popular it gets and how easy the integration is.

Yeah, I'm thinking its even usefully if you just take one with you on a hike, so if you get in a jam with 0 cell signal you can turn it on and send a "shout" out for help. Sounds like it would get pretty good range on top of a mountain. Not as good as a PLB, but cheaper with more uses

We'll see what the practical range is in diverse outside lands - forests, canyons, etc.

S&R use Garmin Rhinos for radio comm, very expensive. It'd be cool if GoTenna and a smartphone could replicate that.
