Used the apple watch and gaia for MT biking yesterday.
Overall it worked pretty well but i did have some issues.

When I started the watch at, did force touch and click start gaia started with a track I recorded sunday kayaking with the apple watch.

Had to go to the iPhone, select the tack edit it. then go to trip computer and select finish.

When "stopping" recording of a track on the apple watch it seems it only paused the recording, does not finish it. Can you please add a finish button to the apple watch app.
After pausing on the watch. if you go to the track on the phone their is no Finish track button. Looks like you need to go to trip computer and click finish.

When i force touch to mark a waypoint. the waypoint screen comes up but the microphone does not seem to work.

another issue on the apple watch app. When viewing the Map on the watch it was showing other tracks even though i had all tracks off in the iphone app.

then of course there is the loading of the app, which most of the time takes forever, along with the glance. seems like this is more of an apple watch OS issue, since allot of other apps, even native ones can do this.

Watch OS seems very buggy. Have had my watch reboot boot 3 times this morning. sometimes apps never load. and the apple watch app on the iPhone crashes constantly on me

Any way you can add an arrow around the location dot to show which direction you are heading. This would be very useful in the glance on the apple watch. Also would like to be able to set the default zoom level in the glance.

Thanks
Pete

Hi Pete,
Thanks for the feedback on the watch app. We’re definitely still learning what works on the watch and feedback is appreciated.

We’ve got an update submitted to apple that has a redesigned UI. The latency loading watch apps seems to be all in the speed of the connection between the watch and the phone, but there are some things that can be done to speed it up. For some reason Hierarchal based interfaces seem to load slower than page based interfaces. The next version uses a page based layout with 3 pages: recording controls, stats, and the map. This interface also seems to be way easier to use, in the initial version the recording controls and the map were basically hidden, now there just a swipe away. The only controls that still require a force touch to access are zooming the map.

I’ve responded bellow to some of you comments.

Happy Hiking,
Jesse Crocker

This will be fixed in a future version, but not the one thats currently in review. For now you’ll just have to finish tracks on the phone.

That’s odd. The text input is all handled by a system component. Does it work in other apps?

It’s not showing other tracks, it only ever shows the current track, but there is a bug in the current version where parts of the current track that are off screen get folded back and forth across the screen. This is fixed in the next update.

I think the next version loads faster, but i’d be interested to hear if you agree once you’ve tried it.

The glance uses the same zoom level as the map in the main watch app, so if you go into the app and zoom in the glance will use that zoom level. In a future version I think we will increase the default zoom on the watch 1 or 2 levels.

Thanks
Pete

Thanks Jesse.
New watch app looks nice. What will be the first page?

Here are my answers to  your questions:

Yes works fine in the messages app and using siri on the watch

Ah thats definitely it.

Im hoping thats just it and not something faulty with my bluetooth in the watch or iPhone

Nice! any way to add a triangle around the dot to show which way you are going? since you don't stare at the glance for a long time it's hard to tell, this would convey that info very fast.

Any plans on adding turn by turn directions to the watch app? Would be useful when mountain biking on new trails.

Oh yeah 3D DEM maps in the iPhone app please!

Thanks for continually updating the app and adding new features

-Pete
