Hello folks,

We’ve got a new version of Gaia GPS available for testing. This version contains mostly just bug fixes, and should reduce the rate of app crashes significantly.

There is 1 new feature: importing TileJSON files. TileJSON is a format for describing tile servers, see https://www.mapbox.com/guides/an-open-platform/#tilejson for more on TileJSON. Many tile servers provide TileJSON files, if you have one you can load it into Gaia GPS using iTunes File Sharing, and it will be imported the next time you open the app.

The previous beta expired several days ago, so anyone that would like to continue using the beta should install this build.

Release notes:
  • Enabled import of TileJSON files for adding new map sources
  • Fixed multiple display issues on iPhone 6 and 6+
  • Fixed recording a new track occasionally resuming last track
  • Fixed numerous bugs that caused occasional app crashes
  • Fixed an issue that could cause GaiaPro subscription renewals to not work properly
  • Fixed an issue with email export not working when brightness was turned down

Happy Hiking,
Jesse Crocker

Any plan to add DEM support for 3-d maps?
Also hoping to be able to put my finger on the map and have it tell me the altitude at that point..
3rd feature request is to make drawing out trails easier. Would like to be able draw a trail with my finger (or stylus) and have gaia convert that to a track. (with distance altitude info) Would be easier than the current method which is point to point.

Just some ideas
App keeps getting better!

Happy New Year Pete.

1) There's more we want to do with elevation, but haven't yet.

2) New Trip recorder is on Apple's review queue though, and you'll be beta testing Groups in a week or 3.

3) Draw a track with finger is the top requested feature we know of once new Trip Recorder and Groups are launched, so I could see that getting done this season. That should include areas, polygons, and measurements too though (IMO), and probably be GaiaPro.

Other stuff cooking too, which I won't talk about yet!
