Description:
Client is looking for a detail-oriented User Research Assistant with an intense passion for gaming and conducting research using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
As a User Research Assistant, you will moderate groups (4-20 participants) through test sessions on various gaming platforms.
During this 9-month contract, you will observe participant behavior and communicate that information to the research team.
You will receive training in many necessary skills; However, knowledge of research practices with people is critical.
Responsibilities:
Assist lead researchers in all tasks, including preparing and executing research studies.
Ensure smooth operation of studies, such as recruiting research participants, setting up the lab, troubleshooting hardware and software, and executing the study.
Moderate each playtest in a non-biased manner.
Regularly submit notes/observations for each test.
Assist the operations lead in maintaining the research participant database and inventory of gratuities (games and gift cards).
Possibly support special projects, such as qualitative data entry and analysis, presentations to stakeholders, recruiting events, game teardowns, basic statistical analysis, telemetry integration, visual dashboards/graphs creation, etc.
Qualifications: Education:
Pursuing or completing a relevant college degree (eg, social sciences, human-computer interaction [HCI], human factors, or related field). Graduate degrees preferred.
Essential knowledge or skills:
Comfortable speaking authoritatively in front of groups.
Experience moderating large groups effectively without supervision
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Comfortable with Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Able to adapt and quickly learn when faced with a large variety of problems.
Really enjoy gaming in all forms!
Preferred knowledge and skills:
Knowledge of research design in qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods research.
Basic proficiency with statistical tests and scripting languages, such as R or similar.
Familiarity with data visualization tools like Looker or similar.
Understanding of game design theory and the development process for video games.
