THis morning one of my beautiful squash plants had totally wilted, squash and all. I pulled it up and something had been chewing on the root. what can I use organically to prevent this happening to the other ones. I think it is those little bugs we call rolly pollies that roll up in a ball with a hard shell. HELPPPPPP.

critters can often times be most effectively dealt with at the local
level. I would sure be calling a nursery or two in your neighborhood.

Glad you caught them..

Rolly pollies feed on organic matter in the soil. It is probably root
maggots. (can't think of the name) To check go out after dark and turn
a
flashlight on the area. You will see the culprit. Another way is to pt
a
moist piece of cardboard on the area and left it the next morning and
see
what is under it. A way to prevent is the made collars around the the
stem
of the plant. Collar should be about 3 40 4 inches in height

It sounds allot more like grubs to me as I have had this same problem.
Turned
out I had white grubs in the soil.
I have used Milk Spore and Crab shell (both are organic pest controls)
and
they seemed to work good.
Here is a link to a web site that is very good and describes the
products
well.
