Hey there. I have a hundreds of emails in gmail with photo
attachements to them, but I am looking for one photo in particular,
need-in-haystack mode. I don't know which email it's attached to, and
I wasn't able to narrow it down by searching on a textual description
or labels indicating the email that has the right attachment to it.
(lesson learned) I'd rather not have to view every email to find the
one picture I need.
So, what I wish I had was the ability to say "Show me all the images
attached to all (or a filtered set) of emails. I would then get one or
more pages showing images, much like the google image search results
page. It would be most excellent if a gmail photo attachment view
could extract the info out of attached zip files (Got those too, could
be in one of those...sign). Please bear in mind that I understand how
to save images from a specific email to anywhere on my system, or to
Picasa.
OK, I am not writing this to extoll the virtues of Yahoo Mail, but
they added such functionality very nicely. (see "View Attachments" and
"View Photos" in the left sidebar). So, how 'bout same Google?
I especially find Yahoo's "Photo View" feature very helpful, because
it efficiently shows small versions of every photo on one or more
pages, and the label for each photo is the name of the file attached
to the email. Clicking on the label takes one straight to the email
the photo is attached to. Hover with the mouse over the photo gives
concise information about the email it's attached to.
Furthermore, their design allows for very easy searching and saving of
images to one's HD across all or a filtered set of emails. I also like
the way you can see (also in the left sidebar) one's list of folders,
with a parenthesized total of how many photos, if any, are in each
folder.
If similar functionality already exists in gmail and I somehow missed
it, Mea Culpa/Shame-On-Me, but please, point it out to me. Maybe it's
in an add-on I don't know about. But, if it's not in gmai, I think it
should be a medium to high priority. Before I suggest it at their
site, I thought I would run it up the flag poll here first. I might
missed some'tin.
Thanks,
Ben
