Please someone explain this to me.

Everytime I open my GMail account now I get a request from "File Operation" to make changes on my hard drive.  If I say no and close the window then immediately a new window opens that says "System Remote Settings" wants to make changes on my hard drive.  This started about 2 days ago.

Is this a Google thing?  This is acting just like a trojan/keylogger.  When I run spybot it comes up with "right media" but I cleanse it.  TrendMicro scans clean.

Someone please give me a reasonable explanation quickly,  This is unacceptable.

have a peaceful day,
Bill

Some one please tell me what GMail  is trying to load on my computer without telling me.  I am pretty upset.   I am also upset at the gawdawful google reader changes.

I have been with GMail from the beginning this is not good.

Chances are that it's nothing that Gmail is loading, but something else on your computer.  Have you tried using a different browser?

Hi Nick,

Of course you could be right but why does it only happen when I load GMail?  If I reboot and just let it sit for a half hour, these requests don't pop up with other websites.  But then when I load GMail they pop up.

No I haven't tried another browser.

I would suggest that you try other browsers to see if it affects them as well.  Also, make sure that your virus/malware definitions are up to date.

Hi Bill,

don't seem to be having the same problem as you describe. Probably good idea to report this issue to both gmail/google and your anti-virus provider, might be that they don't know this one yet (although two days out there is a pretty long time without being detected already by for example TrendMicro).

rgds, Paul

Bill,

do you have GMail Offline activated.  It sounds like it could be that that is trying to update some files?

Lighten up!  It happens to me too.  Contact Google.  No one is trying to load anything onto your device.  Just choose "ignore or refuse".  I would then reboot your device and empty your cache.

Unless your device is made useless, nothing really happens.  Gmail and other platforms load "stuff" onto devices which track the utility of the devices not your personal information.

I would just go through your settings and block certain content.  Google can help you.

U are correct, Julie. Tell the dude to lighten up and clear the cache. Updating files is s distinct possibility. These things are not uncommon.

Hi Julie thanks for the answer.  I don't have google offline activated I don't use it.  Haven't made any changes to GMail settings for months except last week I activated the google phone feature to make a call from my gmail account.

Michael, clearing cache and cookies were the first thing I tried and I have done it a dozen times in the last two days.  Please don't tell me to "lighten up dude."

Is it affecting your email capabilities? If not, then live with it or trade in for another device.

Pretty obvious I can  email though the flashing little boxes down on my task bar are pretty  damn obnoxious.   Its a security issue Michael that much must be clear.  Someone is trying to alter my operating system.

have a peaceful day,
Bill
