Dear Silvia,
I am copying Robert Gibbons (Director, Virology) and recently retired Dr Myint (Virology), at AFRIMS Bangkok regarding the possibility of a collaboration of sorts in studying prevalence and etiology associated with viral encephalitis is Mynamar.
I would also suggest contacting Duane Gubler's Group in Singapore (DUKE-NUS Partnership) - David Dennis in Hanoi now retired works for this Group. I am also copying Dr Aye Aye (USAID Bangkok) and Susan Maloney (USCDC Bangkok) regarding possible support.
Sounds like an interesting investigation.
Andy

Dear Friends and Colleagues, I have received this question from Dr. Thong in Malaysia. Do you have any ideas that might help him out? In such a case please let us know. Thanks in advance, Silvia

Dear Silvia
Hope you are keeping well. As someone who has been dealing with viral encephalitis issues/grants in recent years, I wonder if you could advise us on how to go about getting a small grant (approx. 10,000 USD) to study viral encephalitis prevalence and aetiology in Myanmar.
Prof CT Tan (Malaysia) and Prof Tin (Myanmar), both neurologists, and I, have discussed the possibility of doing a study in Mandalay, Myanmar, by recruiting patients much in the same way as in the vietnam studies. Apart from clinical data we will be collecting specimens. Hence, one of the prerequisites for the study's success is to have a good freezer which is not available in the study site in Myanmar. The specimens will be sent to Malaysia for further analysis in batches.
What is your advice?. Which grant agency might be interested to support this kind of work?
Cheers
