The Supreme Court Yields to Fascism - We Must Intensify
The Court could have gone straight to the substance of Donald Trump’s blatantly unconstitutional executive order on birthright citizenship. Instead, it tries to hide behind formalism. Now we have utter chaos where an infant will be required to file suit to obtain the rights of citizenship that were granted in 1866. The Court did not ban district court judges from issuing nationwide rulings against presidential orders when Biden was president, but now Trump is losing in federal district courts. His loss rate is shown below.
On June 14, an estimated 5,000,000 people attended thousands of rallies all over the nation to fight fascism and corruption. We must intensify our efforts, and I strongly urge everyone to continue contacting Congress and apply unprecedented pressure to the “Justices” of the Supreme Court.

Congress Yields – Again – on War Powers
Last night’s vote on a War Powers Resolution by Sen. Tim Kaine (VA) lost 47-53. Republican Sen. Rand Paul (KY) voted for the resolution. Sen. John Fetterman (PA) was the only Democrat to join the Republicans. Although it did not pass, this resolution may be viewed as a step forward in re-normalizing the concept of Congressional authority over the war power. Democrats overcame their reluctance to vote for a measure that Israel opposed.
In 2019, both the House and Senate voted for a War Powers Resolution to stop U.S refueling of Saudi plans that were bombing Yemen. Although Trump vetoed that resolution, the refueling did stop soon after. These are the only two instances of Congress trying to invoke the War Powers Act since it was passed in the mid-1970s.
News Briefs
From Robert Reich: Peter Thiel, libertarian, South African emigre to the U.S. founded PayPal and mentored J.D. Vance. He now heads up spytech firm Palantir, which has been hired by the Trump administration to create a super AI database with your personal info: “Will the Trump regime use this emerging super database to advance Trump’s political agenda, find and detain immigrants, and punish critics? Will it make it easier for Trump to spy on and target his ever-growing list of enemies?”
From Revolving Door Project: Trump is shutting down regulatory and enforcement agencies, including:
Agency that investigates chemical explosions
Division of Department of Justice that prevents and prosecutes tax cheating.
From Notes on the Crises: Trump administration continues to hollow out the IRS, making it less likely that his billionaire sponsors will be audited.
From The American Prospect: The Senate version of the immoral budget bill will kill solar and wind subsidies while keeping (expanding?) subsidies for corn ethanol. “The rooftop solar industry would be gored under this bill, with installations falling by an estimated 60-plus percent next year compared to 2024. An acre of solar panels can produce about 200 times more energy than an acre of corn used for ethanol—and indeed, can be made compatible with farms. Instead, thanks to Republicans, the data center boom is showing up as steeply rising electricity prices rather than more power production.”
