I just picked up a new 06 GW. Rode it home 15 miles, 5 miles put on
by set up tech at dealer. Rear brakes locked up at 54 miles. Dealer
blames incorrect installation of Kuryakyn floor boards and brake arm.
Followed install directions in kit and rode tested and rechecked. I
observed no problems with brake arm binding on floorboard. dealer has
rebuilt rear caliper and has master cylinder on order. Bike has been
in shop 1 week. Kuryakyn tech support says it cant happen. Anyone had
simlilar issues with new bike brakes? Or am I hosed for the repair?

I've not heard of any problem like this. That's something that would've
prompted some discussion.

I have the same setup on my 2002 and haven't had a problem.

Sounds like you are going to end up eating the repair costs on this one
through - unless the dealer finds a different reason for the failure.

I did have to pay the bill but I am not done.
The dealer charged me 919.20. 9 hours labor to diagnose and repair. He
rebuilt the rear caliper, 6 seals and 2 brake pads. Problem happened
again after this and he replaced the rear brake master cylinder. His
story was my improper installation of the foot pedal arm caused it to
bind on the floor board causing the brakes to over heat and the hot
brake fluid to damage the master cylinder and rear caliper parts. The
rear pads looked glazed but the seals look fine. I think the rear
brakemaster was bad from the start causing the brakes to drag and over
heat. There was 52 miles on it when it got back to the shop. other
than the trip home from the dealer my driving was all local and slow
speed. Hard to beleive thios would happen under this condition. And
why 9 hours to diagnose a brake problem when it is apparent looking at
the schematic of the brake system that this was the probable trouble
part.
Brake pedal = input
Rear Brake =output
Master Cyl = control
Well I am off to write a letter to Honda and see what happens. There
are lots of lemon law lawyers in this state. I hope it doesn't come to
that.

Sounds pretty fishy to me. With only 50 miles on it I can see the brake
pads being overheated - hell you'd have to see the smoke and smell
them burning. I had this happen on my van. I know there is a
difference, but it didn't impact the master cylinder at all...

Since it happened a second time after correcting the initially
diagnosed problem, I suspect you are right in believing there was a
problem from the outset.

Cheers
