Hi everyone,

I've included below the Global Kids Island monthly newsletter, which we distribute in-world on the teen grid.  Hopefully this can give people a sense of things that are happening in that space, and make sure that what happens in the teen grid doesn't just stay in the teen grid.

We do have some events or announcements that are relevant for main gridders, and I've highlighted in red items I thought would be relevant or GK events that are happening on the main grid.

Also, if you're an educator or parent that would like to get your teen students involved in GK programs on the teen grid, feel free to mail me off-list.

best,
Rafi

As technology is blurring the borders, people have more first hand access to different cultures than ever before. ++++RECENT EVENTS++++

We’ve had some great stuff happen here on GK in the past month, check it out!

++Global Kids at the ICC! ++
On February 29, Global Kid's staffers Barry Joseph and Rik Panganiban had the opportunity to give two presentations to a couple of dozen officials at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.  A highlight of the presentations was a showing of "A Child's War" machinima and images of teens at the virtual ICC on the Teen Grid.  We talked with the ICC officials about our "visions of global justice" art contest, as well as the launch of our new tool to connect residents of virtual worlds with people in countries where the ICC is active using SMS text messaging.

++ Get Activated! ++

On February 8th, GK staffers Rik Panganiban and Rafi Santo presented on the subject of "Best Practices for Non-profits in Second Life" at the Plush Nonprofit Commons amphitheater in the main grid.  Held in conjunction with the release of the white paper on this subject, the panel discussion also included Lori Bell from the Alliance Library System, Jimbo Hoyer from YearlyKos, and Jade Lily of the SL Relay for Life.  The report, prepared by Rik, grew out of discussions and findings from the non-profit thread at the 2007 Second Life Community Convention.

++ Fireside Workshop - ICED Game Party! ++

On President’s day GK held a game release party for ICED!  What is ICED you ask? It stands for I Can End Deportation, and it's a free 3D downloadable RPG about immigration.  The game allows players experience the effects of current immigration laws on detention and deportation on legal permanent residents, asylum seekers, students and undocumented people, effects that often violate human rights and deny due process.
