Hi.

I'm a surveyor from NZ and my company is looking to purchase a robotic
total station and a GPS RTK unit for setting-out 3km of road and
bridges. The project is NZ$64M with an elevated roadabout and 5 bridge
structures, taking an estimated 2 years to complete. I've had a go
with the RTK unit (a R8 GNSS running SCS900 software) and it appears
to work fine, although there are hills all around I can still get at
least 5 satelites throughout the project.

I've also looked at Trimbles' S6 robotic instrument using the same
logger and software, TSC2 with SCS900 installed. Trimbles' sales rep
demonstrated the instrument and we also had a go of Terramodel. For
computing DTM volumes and road setting-out, they seem to fit our
needs. There's also great support from them, their rep is local, a
rarity in NZ.

I was hoping for some opinions (good and bad) about Trimble's
equipment, we're very impressed and can't see any reason not to
purchase. I've briefly looked at Leica's and TopCon's offerings but
think that Trimble's equipment is more suitable for our project.
Thanks!
