Dear friends of Germantown Hope,
Hello from Philadelphia! I am writing to ask for your help. Ministry continues at Germantown Hope as it has for nearly 15 years now: evangelism, discipleship, teaching, worship, and service. The church continues to be a place of welcome for people in our neighborhood who might not feel comfortable coming into a church. Growing groups of neighbors and passers-by are coming to the church on Wednesday and Friday mornings to hear the word and be welcomed by God's people. Some have grown comfortable enough to join Sunday worship with the whole congregation. This is a local body with a unique calling.
Years of financial difficulty, however, have drained our savings and may soon force us to make difficult decisions. Our budget is a modest $42,500, $38,000 of which is dedicated to two things:
1. a part-time salary for our pastor, Nate Morris, who "tentmakes" as a handyman and maintenance worker on days when he is not serving at the church
2. the mortgage and upkeep of our building at 5029 Wayne Avenue, which is a main business and residential corridor in Germantown
We are asking our extended church family to help us pay off the remaining $30,000 on our mortgage debt so that we can be financially self sustaining, direct our resources toward ministry rather than our building, and continue to support Pastor Nate and his family (Nate dreams of being able to minister full-time and the church would like to support him in this!). Please visit our page on the charitable giving site Razoo for more details and to see a video about the church:
A gift of any size toward our goal would be a blessing and an encouragement to us. We are, as ever, in need of your prayers more than anything. Please pray for the Lord's provision, for wisdom in difficult decisions, and, regardless of our finances, that the church will continue to proclaim and share Jesus with our community. We rest in the knowledge that he is faithful, no matter what.
Thank you for your prayers and support!
In His peace,
Matthew Grewe, deacon at GHope
