Summer Play Street, and How You Can Be Involved

Hi friends,

Thank you for your prayers for Sis! She has made remarkable recovery, and she was back to worshiping with the rest of us at Germantown Hope only couple of weeks after she suffered a stroke. And now she's getting ready to lead Play Street on Tacoma St against this summer! Praise the Lord.

Speaking of Play Street, here is a letter to you from Rachel, who is partnering with Sis:

Dear Friends of Germantown Hope Community Church, 

My name is Rachel Riexinger. I have been a member of G-Hope for about three years now. G-Hope is where I met my wonderful husband Kurt Riexinger, and where we plan to raise our family (our first little addition is due to arrive in September).  

Miss Sis, a long standing member of G-Hope, has been leading and loving the children on Tacoma Street for as long I have known her. This block, located near the church, has been home to several church members including Miss Sis over the years and has been the center of many outreach efforts. Last year she organized Play Street for the kids on her block and this year she would like to do it again.  

Sis and I would love for you to partner with us this summer to make play street a truly memorable experience for the kids on Tacoma Street. 

Some of the new things we would like to do this summer are:

• Family/Neighborhood BBQ nights throughout the summer; starting with a kick off BBQ the Saturday before Play Street begins.

• A structured activity each day, such as bible stories, arts and crafts, kid friendly exercise, sports, trip to the local pool, etc.

• Special events sprinkled throughout the summer. Dan Helms will be coming out to lead a Bicycle Rodeo.

• Outdoor games for afternoon free play.

There are many ways you can partner with us! Above all, we need your prayers. Please pray for:

• Safety and peace on the block.

• Parent and neighbor involvement and ownership.

• Health for Sis and I; Sis is recently recovering from a stroke, and I will be in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy.

You could also partner with us through donation. Here is a list of (new/used) items we will need for the summer:

• Soccer balls

• 4 square/dodge balls

• Footballs

• Hula hoops

• Chalk

• Water balloons

• Water guns

• Kid pools

• Large plastic bins

• Reusable plastic cups for water

• Tent, for shade on a block with no porches.

In addition to these items we will also need funds to purchase arts and crafts supplies, some BBQ fixings, and other activity expenses. (If you would like to send a check it can made out to “Germantown Hope Community Church” memo “Play Street!” and mailed to 5029 Wayne Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19144.) 

There is one final way you could partner with us this summer, and that is come out and get involved! Lead a special event or structured activity! Do you have a skill to share? A fun game to lead? Share it with the kids at Play Street!
