Hi all,
A good friend and colleague, Pastor David Bullock, is running for Detroit City Council and he needs our support. Usually I try to avoid these types of emails, so know that I wouldn't be sending this if I didn't believe in the cause and the candidate. Pastor Bullock has been an outspoken advocate of the green economy, equal justice, improved education, and economic transformation in Detroit and has been one of the leading voices questioning and opposing Michigan's use of emergency financial managers. His voice in the Detroit City Council could be transformational.
I moved away from Detroit nearly two years ago, but a couple of months ago I was back for a visit and some much needed inspiration. During that trip, I had a conversation with Pastor Bullock. In the back of Greater St. Matthews Church, we discussed Detroit's economic decline, political corruption, inequality, and the need for a new path forward; one defined by environmental sustainability, equal justice, and local jobs. I remember leaving that discussion thinking that I would do anything I could to help Pastor Bullock run for office, at the time not knowing that he was considering running for City Council. That is why I am sending this email - I believe in Pastor Bullock and I believe that his leadership can help lead to a better future in Detroit.
In addition to considering my testimony to Pastor Bullock's merits, I'm asking you all to take a few minutes to learn more about Pastor Bullock's work and, if you are so inclined, to donate to his campaign. While $25 would be great, any amount (5/10/or more...etc) will help. (For the sake of transparency, know that I have donated $75 dollars.) I believe he can make positive change in Detroit, but he needs all of our support to get there. For more information about Pastor Bullock, the campaign, and how to show your support, please visit: http://fundrazr.com/campaigns/8XPl7#.Ub_mdheS3Yo.email.
If you don't feel that you can afford to donate, but would like to help advance this cause and Detroit, please get in touch. The primary is in early August and Pastor Bullock's campaign will need as many volunteers as possible!
Thanks so much,
Cory
