Let your voice be heard!
The University of Oregon has applied for a 30-year Conditional Use Permit from the City of Eugene to develop the “north campus.” This includes the open space between the Frohnmayer (Autzen) Footbridge and the former EWEB property downstream (which will be intensively redeveloped under an entirely separate process).
The University's plans call for buildings, acres of [likely] synthetic playing fields, lights, and fences that would displace wildlife and restrict educational and public uses within this unique riverfront landscape. Now is your chance to speak up about how you think this public land should be used. If the permit is issued, you won't be given another official opportunity to say how the riverfront should be used until the permit expires in 2048.

With many students and faculty members away from campus it's especially important that you either attend the hearing or submit written comments if you cannot attend. Speak up to protect the University's Riverfront!
I will be sending reminders with more information in the days ahead. You can go to the University's website for more information about the North Campus Conditional Use Permit. For a vision of how the UO's riverfront property could be restored while serving the University's academic mission, read an op-ed piece in the Register-Guard that I co-authored.
