  • Expert knowledge of Avaya Aura Communication Manager Evolution Server 5.2 or higher (CM 6.x preferred)
  • Expert knowledge of S8300D & S8800 series servers, G450, G350, G650 gateways, and various circuit packs/media modules
  • Expert knowledge of CMS R16.x

Position Description

Position Title:    Senior Telecommunications Engineer
Department Name: Information Technology (IT)
Reports to (Title, not name): Executive Director of IT
Supervises (Titles, not names):     Executive Director of IT
Scheduled Days/Hours: Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm

Position Purpose: The Telecommunications Engineer provides senior level engineering assignments that will involve the preparations of specifications, evaluation, design and integration of large IP Telephony and IP Contact Center technologies. Provides high level escalation support of complex IP telephony and call center technologies and development of new and/or improved voice technologies while maintaining the existing global telephony infrastructure. Performs a wide variety of tasks and may lead and direct the work of others.
Designs, develops, implements, maintains, and enhances telecommunication networks, systems and equipment. Position provides detailed analysis on existing telecommunication networks and equipment and identifies opportunities for improvement while maintaining maximum efficiency and availability for all telecommunication infrastructures. Must interface with all levels of the organization and telecom vendors

  • Business Partners that have contracted the organization for 800 number service and sales


Essential Duties:
Administer and maintain telecommunications hardware, software and other networked peripherals
Ordering, installing and troubleshooting E1, T1, PRI, ISDN, and VoIP voice circuits
Design and implement new telecommunications technologies to meet business objectives
Develop, implement and maintain Disaster Recovery plans and procedures for voice communications
Provide on-call support of all voice infrastructure and applications
Develop and ensure all support documentation is kept current
Supervise Technicians to maintain equipment
Perform other job related duties as assigned by Executive Director of IT


Dimensions:  This position provides a key role in day-to-day function of the business. This position is responsible for: 
Managing all global telecommunication equipment (phones, circuits, software, and hardware); estimated at $16,000,000 US in Operationally critical telecommunications infrastructure
Toll-Free Number Management – in excess of 1200 numbers and growing for key partners
DID ‘Direct-Inbound-Digits’ Management – 3,000 direct dial numbers
Maintain an annual average of 99% uptime, excluding scheduled maintenance outages
Maintain an average 15-20 minute response time for complete Disaster Recovery / Emergency Telecom Routing providing for complete failover and handling for inbound calls

Qualifications/Requirements of the Position: 
BA or BS in a computer-related field, or equivalent system administration certification & experience
Strong knowledge of networking principles to include basic understanding of TCP/IP, IP subnetting, VLANs, Ethernet, routing and switching, DHCP, DNS and QoS
5+ years experience in Avaya voice/data communications
Expert knowledge of VoIP Telephony, Avaya Communication Manager, AES, Avaya System/Session Manager, and CMS
Experience with Microsoft Unified Messaging 2010
Experience with Microsoft Lync 2010
Strong knowledge of AT&T Route IT!
Strong knowledge of Avaya Proactive Contact
Strong understanding of WAN technologies such as MPLS
Knowledge of SIP and H.323 protocols
Experience in Avaya Media Gateway and Gatekeeper configurations and administration
Strong knowledge of Avaya gateways to include Avaya G430, G450, and G650
Experience with voice carrier networks
Experience with large scale call center environments
Strong problem solving and analytic skills to isolate problems, recommend solutions and implementation of solutions
Avaya ACIS, ACSS certifications a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent computer skills necessary in Word, Excel, Presentation, Project and Visio.
Excellent people skills with ability to handle difficult personnel situations.
Excellent analytical skills and the ability to apply them towards the investigation of existing installations.
Must be able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
Should have an understanding of current industry trends and their advantages with ability to right fit into an existing environment.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
Must be able to lift at least 50lbs
Must have reliable transportation and means of communication
