Answer to Bill's Question

In regards to the question Bill posed last week:

 

Quesion (from Bill):

"Is it a good ideal to try and wake people up, and if so what specific information do we want to wake them up to and to be confident of, that it is true?"

Answer (from Jeff):

I think it is important that we find a way to thoughtfully wake people up.  That being said, I've had more failures while trying to do this than successes.  Thankfully my biggest success is that my wife is now awake and fully on-board.  Before she was on-board, she sometimes had to leave the room when I was watching Glenn or the news because she couldn't stand my screaming and yelling at the TV :)  Now she occasionally screams and yells with me :)

 

However, at one point in time I was too aggressive in trying to "spread the message" to a couple of friends, and it back-fired a little bit.  It was a situation where a few comments were made that I had a very strong opinion about, and in stating my opinion I happened to bring Glenn Beck into the discussion.  When they balked at it (and him?), I challenged them to watch the show for 5 days and then form their own opinion of him, rather than blindly judge him negatively based on the lies that they had heard.  Needless to say that didn't turn out too well.  Not only did we never have a follow-up discussion about it, but it has somewhat strained our relationship.

 

We have also tried to discretely bring it up to some relatives.  They are life-long Democrat-leaning and union members (a "normal" democrat, not a "radical" one, as Glenn would put it).  They have sort of had a neutral response to our attempts, so it's hard to gauge whether they are more on-board than they used to be. 

 

I would be interested to find out if anybody else has a good approach on how to breach the topic with people who are not yet on board.  I'm almost starting to thing Glenn is right and that the doors to the boat need to be shut.  If they are not on-board now, will they ever be?

Some housekeeping:
If you reply to the sender of the message, your reply only goes to the sender, or you can reply to all and your reply will go to all in the group.
In general it is usually best to reply to all so that we all can get a sense of what is happening in the group.

Let me quote from Jeff:

It is a challenge to wake people out of sleep, especially when they do not particularly want to wake up.

Some good news:
Someone in the group who has a radio show, website, and blog has offered to help in this endeavor. I am not familiar with this person so that is all I know.
I responded back to him, "I am confident though, that first and foremost, with reliance on God, this group, and people like yourself, we can be effective and efficient in our efforts."

So:
Here is what I suggest that we work on and think about this next week:

The key word here is specific. The quantity of information is enormous. We can only communicate a small amount. What is the most important or key information that will be most helpful?

The Process and Timetable:

In order to pace ourselves and not to burn out, and to allow everyone a chance to develop their own thoughts, let us not share our thoughts on this until next Tuesday or after.

This is the "What" and is a tough but important question. If we can come up with a good answer to "What". We can then go on to the "How".

Maybe our results will surprise us? or maybe we are barking up the wrong tree? Your responses do not have to be only answers to that question, but they should be related to the question or if you think we are barking up the wrong tree, share that.

I am looking forward to what this group comes up with on Tuesday Dec. 7th.
