Your Supplements Are Under Attack: Time to Fight Back!
Share this with your friends and family: If the FDA has its way, all vitamins, herbs and other dietary supplements will soon be classified in the same manner as unapproved drugs and synthetic food additives. The results of this change in classification could be disastrous for both natural health consumers and the natural health industry.
Resveratrol, CoQ10, curcumin and even many multivitamins could be pulled from the market, and those that remain available may become so expensive that many people won’t be able to afford them. Supplement companies that cannot afford to put their products through the FDA’s intensive, burdensome drug trial process may be forced out of business, leaving room for pharmaceutical companies to swoop in and profit at your expense.
You know that Big Pharma is surely working hard behind the scenes to make sure that this law is passed, and that they carry incredible influence with the FDA and the government in general. This means that we all need to work together and use the power of the people to stop this from happening. Unless we stop these new guidelines from going in to effect, we stand to lose our right to access the natural healing tools that many of us depend on as alternatives to expensive and often dangerous pharmaceutical drugs.
It’s all rather mind-boggling. Clearly, the FDA is biased against supplements, but why? One could easily argue that any agency that gets 60% of its funding from Big Pharma is going to do everything it can to support that industry. To not enact policies to prop up Big Pharma would be literally suicidal for the FDA.
At the end of the day, it seems to me that the FDA, and their close friends, the pharmaceutical companies are getting very nervous about the growing popularity of dietary supplements (which they regard as competition for drugs) and the growing number of Americans deciding to take their health into their own hands.
Well, if you’re as confused and angered by all of this as we are, please make your voice heard. While the comment period is almost over, there are often delays.

Pain Management: Education is Key
This summer, the Institute of Medicine released a report, "Relieving Pain in America," which found that 116 million Americans suffer from chronic pain, costing the U.S. up to $635 billion in treatment and lost productivity. Chronic pain even increases the risk of depression and suicide.
But when it comes to treating pain, doctors also face no-win situations. While chronic pain is effectively treated with opioids - a class of medications that includes morphine and OxyContin, as well as heroin - close monitoring of the patient is essential because the drugs can be addictive.
Sales Exploding
In a column in The New England Journal of Medicine last fall, physician Susan Okie noted the explosion in the sales of pain medication, as well as a marked increase in emergency room visits for pain drug overdoses.
In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, deaths from unintentional drug overdoses in the USA, primarily driven by opioids, are the second-leading cause of accidental death.
To combat prescription drug abuse, the Drug Enforcement Agency has gone primarily after rogue doctors, pain clinics and wholesale drug companies. Still, highly publicized federal raids can discourage honest doctors from prescribing pain pills. In TheNew England Journal of Medicine, physicians Timothy Quill and Diane Meier said "concerns about regulatory oversight have led some physicians... to avoid prescribing opioids entirely and have rendered others... fearful or hesitant."
Doctors face a conundrum. On the one hand, chronic pain drugs can lead to abuse, which could draw the attention of law enforcement. On the other, chronic pain patients are often inadequately treated. It's not because doctors don't care. Robert Rolfs, state
epidemiologist at the Utah Department of Health, calls prescription drug abuse "an unintended consequence of an intent to treat pain better."
More patients suffer from chronic pain than those with diabetes, cancer and heart disease combined. Similar attention and resources that we use on those better known conditions should also be spent on better educating doctors and patients about chronic pain.

Indeed education is the key to pain management - especially as it relates to alternatives to the drugs mentioned above. There is no question that chronic pain is an epidemic in our country. Thankfully, more and more people are looking at natural alternatives to assist their bodies in dealing with inflammation and chronic pain. Relevit was designed as a natural alternative to the addictive power of over the counter and prescription painkillers. If you are dealing with chronic pain and inflammation, maybe it is
time to consider Relevit as a natural way to experience relief without the detrimental side effects associated with chronic pain drugs. Many Let’s Talk Health members part of those 116 million Americans who suffer from chronic pain. Here are just a sampling of how Relevit has helped them...
David from Ohio "Relevit is the best and safest that we have found for our aches and pains."
Jean from Arizona "Great stuff...I wouldn't be with out it!!"
Carolyn from Indiana "I am so glad for Relevit since it doesn't hurt your stomach and you can take as much as you need with no side effects just pain relief."
Army Looking at How Fish Oil Might Reduce Suicides
Research published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry last month showed that men in the service with low levels of an omega-3 fatty acid known as docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, were 62% more likely to commit suicide. The researchers compared routine blood samples taken from 800 service members from 2002 to 2008 - and who months later committed suicide - with samples taken from 800 other service members.
The authors say their findings do not suggest fish oil is a way to deter suicides. The Army suicide rate reached 22 per 100,000 last year, higher than civilians of the same age group.
Omega-3s are found naturally in foods such as fatty fish and walnuts and have been shown to help prevent heart disease. Preliminary studies suggest that the supplements could help relieve symptoms of certain depressions,
the Mayo Clinic says. Experts note that fish oil's potential benefits for mental health need to be confirmed in larger, more rigorous studies.
Even so, the potential psychiatric benefits of omega-3s could be a factor in reducing the suicides, says Joseph Hibbeln, a co-author of the Journal study and nutritional neuroscientist at the National Institutes of Health.
"I'm all over it, because I'm looking for something to help," says Gen. Peter Chiarelli, the Army's vice chief of staff, who has been working for years to reduce the service's record number of suicides.
"I'm trying to make sure our docs get going as fast as they can to get some clinical trials going so we can make a determination whether or not there's anything to this," Chiarelli says.

We know that Fish Oil contains DHA which is an omega-3 fatty acid found mostly in the brain, retina, and in sperm. It plays an important role in vision. Omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial because they provide fluidity to cell membranes and improve communication between brain cells. They also reduce the clotting ability of platelets, thus potentially decreasing the incidence of heart attacks and strokes. Our Fish/Flax Oil formula not only contains the all-important DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA
(eicosapentaenoic acid), it is also rich in Alpha Linolenic Acid and Linoleic Acid as a result of synergistically combining high quality fish oil with organic flax seed oil. Fish/Flax Oil can be purchased separately or a part of our Golden Healthy Life Protocol and Healthy Life Protocol.
Vicky from New Louisiana "I have taken this for years. My eye doctor suggested flax oil and after drinking the awful stuff, I tried these capsules and discovered other benefits besides helping dry eyes. My skin was better and my digestion was better. I have tried a few other brands and these just are the best."
Patricia from California "This is an excellent product. Two months ago, I started taking the fish/flax and the dryness in my scalp disappeared. I do not need to use any special shampoo or lotion and take a medication that damages my leaver. My theory is that this magic oil balance the levels of the EFA in the body provides and internal heal."
Thought of the Week…

“The FDA protects the big drug companies, and is subsequently rewarded, and using the government’s police powers, they attack those who threaten the big drug companies. People think that the FDA is protecting them. It isn’t. What the FDA is doing, and what the public thinks it is doing are as different as night and day.”
