Dear Friends, Family, & Colleagues,

For the last few years my brother and husband have been active members of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Board of Directors.   JDRF sponsors a variety of events on a national basis including the Ride to Cure, a cycling event held in five locations nationwide throughout the summer.  It is my husband’s goal to bring one of these cycling events to Louisville one day.  In planning for that he participated in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes in Lake Tahoe last year.  In order to become a participant the cyclist must meet a fundraising goal of $4,000.  Dan and a fellow board member, Paul Blackburn, raised over $11,000!   This year Dan and Paul have added three more team members and plan to participate in the Burlington, VT ride through the Champlain River Valley, a 108-mile trek.  They have set a goal to raise $20,000 for the benefit of finding a cure for children diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

This widespread disease affects at least someone we all know.  Watching a child have to go through the daily rigor of insulin shots and monitoring their blood sugar levels is hard to see, it’s a disease which relentlessly takes away the care-free part of a child’s life and makes them face adult-like responsibilities because if they don’t they put their life at risk.  Not to mention the parents that will never experience a full night’s sleep as they have to constantly think is their child’s insulin level where it should be in the middle of the night.  We are clearly not scientists, but we can make a difference the only way we know how, through awareness and fundraising.

Dan and his riding team have been given the opportunity to partner with The Village Anchor to have a “Celebrity Host Night” on Monday April 30th whereby a percentage of the proceeds of the evenings dining receipts are donated to JDRF.  I have attached a flyer for the event which provides more details.  Please join us for an evening out for good food, libations and a good cause!  Please note you must make a reservation mentioning you are dining for JDRF in order for them to get credit.

I hope we see you there!

Leann and Dan Pellissier

If you’re unable to attend the dinner, but would still like to donate to Dan’s team, you can use the link below to make an online donation.
