Mahul residents to protest at Mantralaya on Dec 15 #MumbaisToxicHell

After receiving a number of false assurances of rehabilitation in a safer residential area, the residents of polluted Mahul (aka (#MumbaisToxicHell) have decided to hold a mass rally from their protest site which they have ‘occupied’ in Vidya Vihar to Mantrayala on 15th December, 2018, if the Maharashtra state Government under the CM Devendra Fadnavis fails to act as per Bombay Hight Court’s order and rehabilitate them. The Government of Maharashtra has chosen to maintain silence on the issue, which involves the lives and health of 30,000 of the poor citizens of the city,

who have been evicted from their 40+ year old slums near the Tansa Pipeline and dumped to die in Mumbai’s most polluted area,the National Green Tribunal observed that there is a serious threat to the health of residents rehabilitated in Mahul.

Slum-dwellers harassed for protecting mangroves

|
An activist of Ghar Bachao Ghar Banao Andolan (GBGBA) who has registered several complaints against mangrove cutting and other illegal activities in Mumbai’s Vikhroli area, is being continuously harassed by the Forest Department (FD) officials in the name of “inquiry.” Uday Mohite, a resident of the Bhimchhaya slum area and activist with GBGBA alleged is now filing a petition against continuous harassment by slumlords and the FD.

Interestingly, he has received a show cause notice from the Forest Department saying that they have received a complaint against him from the people of Bhimchhaya regarding cutting of mangroves by him.

GBGBA celebrates International Child Rights Day

The GBGBA’s Children Learning Center (CLC) at Sanjay Nagar, Deonar celebrated International Child Rights Day on 20th November, 2018 with a painting competition. Nearly 90 children from slums near Deonar dumping ground participated.
Sonali Shirke from GBGBA spoke to the children about the importance of child rights and demerits of Child labour, the Right to live, Right to develop, Right to protection, Right to participate, the Right to Play, the Right to Health care, the Right to Drinking Water and the Right to Education.
