Dear Derby Fan:
The Charlottesville Derby Dames would like to extend our sincere thanks for your support over the past seven years. We have grown from a small group of skaters learning the derby ropes to our current team of more than 80 skaters, referees, and volunteers. While we battle hard on the track, we do it as a team. Our team includes you. We couldn't have gotten here without our fans, our sponsors, and the loved ones who have supported us.
Giving back to the community of Charlottesville is integral to who we are as Derby Dames. We’ve donated thousands of dollars to other local non-profit organizations including the Shelter for Help in Emergency, the Charlottesville Free Clinic, and the Virginia Discovery Museum. We’ve volunteered hundreds of hours of our time to many worthwhile causes. But perhaps most importantly to us, we’ve been able to use the sport of roller derby to empower the women of Charlottesville and their physical, mental, and social health. To put it simply: roller derby is our passion.
We come to you now asking for help. You may have heard that we now have no practice space in Charlottesville. While we have a backup plan for bouts in the summer, we have big plans and high hopes. The team has achieved 501(c)(3) non-profit status and has begun work on developing a business plan and pursuing options for purchasing a flexible, multi-use space. If you are able to contribute funds to this effort, please use the red button. We have set a timeline of a year to raise these much-needed funds.
