As a supporter of Keren Malki, you know how much good work we do, providing support to families here in Israel who choose to care for their special-needs child at home.
Home
care almost always provides better results for a disabled child than
institutionalization does. But we have learned that families often find
themselves unable to stand up to the pressure. Caring at home for a
special-needs child calls for special equipment, for resourcefulness, for
energy, for time. We can’t provide all of these of course. These families
already know they have a serious challenge in front of them.
But then when you add the fact that too often these families cannot access the quality paramedical therapies from which their child can get so much good, you can see there is a real need for someone to step in and offer them some help. That’s where Keren Malki comes in.
What are paramedical therapies? Physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, therapeutic swimming and therapeutic horse-riding are among the most popular. Keren Malki provides generous funding to eligible families of special needs children so that they can turn to the best therapists and get the therapies that will make a difference to the child. Keren Malki has funded more than 32,000 therapy sessions so far.
In addition, we provide long-term loans of special equipment that is indispensible to home-caring a child with special needs, ranging from special beds to walkers and standers and beyond.
Our goal from the beginning has been to empower the families of special-needs children to give the child the best they can – without having to turn to institutionalization. It’s a very real need, and the outcomes can be tremendously uplifting.
Speaking of outcomes, if you have not already seen the new video about Keren Malki’s work made by the UK Friends of Keren Malki in London, we want to urge you to do that now. The video is on YouTube and packs a lot into five brief minutes.
Now for the request. We are asking you to help us – and no, this time it will not require you to reach for your credit card or write a cheque/check. All that’s needed is to forward the video’s link to your friends so that they can see what Keren Malki does. We all know that nothing is as effective in creating awareness and support as one friend telling another. That’s what we are asking you to do.
